What should I do if an address is not appearing correctly in MCS?

Where is address data imported from?

Our addresses are imported from AddressBase Premium. This service is composed of addresses from the following sources:

- Royal Mail Postcode Address File (PAF)

- National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG, One Scotland Gazetteer)

- Valuation Office Agency (VOA) Non-domestic Rates

- VOA Council Tax

- OS MasterMap Topography Layer

- OS MasterMap Integrated Networks Layer

How and when is the data imported?

Address data releases (Epochs) come out every six weeks or so. Each release involves a matching process of the above sources.

The National LPG is composed of data from Local Land and Property Gazetteers (LLPGs), which are sent from local authorities such as your own.

Why can addresses sometimes not appear correctly?

There can be discrepancies between AddressBase Premium and LLPGs, due to non-matching between these data sources.

For example, if a UPRN is set as "provisional" or "historic", or is not matched to a Postcode Address File (PAF) record, it might not be included in the AddressBase Premium dataset.

What can I do to resolve an address issue?

Please confirm that the LLPG data you are sending to the NLPG is correct. If it is correct and sent before the next Epoch data cutoff, then it should be included in the next dataset.

Please refer to the following link for Epoch dates: https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/business-government/tools-support/addressbase-epoch-dates

What if the data we are sending has been correct for a long time, but the address is incorrect in MCS?

You will need to contact GeoPlace to confirm where the data discrepancy is and confirm that this will be included in a future Epoch.

If GeoPlace confirm the data is correct, please provide us with the Epoch number in which it was included.

Is there anything Abavus/iTouchVision can do in the meantime?

Note that we only import the data that is included in the Epoch.

If we edit address data after it has been imported, this will only be a temporary fix, as the address data will be changed back in the next Epoch data release if the problem is not resolved at the source.

You can also add a temporary address to resolve the issue temporarily.
