How do I enable location settings in my browser?

The MCS Platform will use the location services on the users’ PC or Mac to identify the current location when a location picker item is used.  This is applicable to both Admin users and Customers.

If location settings are disabled by the Customer or User, the platform will use the location of the authority which the user is registered with.  The location of your authority can be viewed and managed within Administration > General > My Organisation > Addresses.

1. Location Settings - Internet Explorer 11.0

When initially using a location picker within the MCS platform  (https://iweb.itouchvision.com), Internet Explorer will prompt for the user allow the URL access to the location.

If the user selects ‘Allow once’, it will allow access to Location services for this session only.  To enable this for more than one session, the users needs to select ‘Options for this site’ and then select ‘Always Allow’ as below.

From IE 11.0 you can see whether the MCS platform is configured to use Location by using Tools > Internet Options > Privacy.

By checking ‘Never Allow websites to request your physical location’ this will block any web-sites using the location of the PC.  Also, ‘Clear sites’ will remove any web-sites which have been previously added.

2. Location settings - Chrome

When initially using a location picker within the MCS platform (https://iweb.itouchvision.com), Chrome will prompt for the user to Block or Allow iweb.itouchvision.com access to Location settings.

Click ‘Allow’ to enable.

To enabled location settings within Chrome click the button with three horizontal bars/dots on the upper right corner of the browser > Show Advanced settings > Privacy >  Content settings > Location > ‘Allow all sites to track your physical location’ or ‘Ask when a site tried to track your physical location (recommended)’.

To view web-sites which have been blocked or allowed access to Location settings, click ‘Manage Exceptions’.  This is typically used in conjunction with the setting ‘Ask when a site tried to track your physical location’

If the setting ‘Do not allow any site to track your physical location’ the following message will be displayed when using a location picker item within MCS.

3. Location settings - Firefox

When initially using a location picker within the MCS platform (https://iweb.itouchvision.com), Firefox will prompt for the user to Share location information with iweb.itouchvision.com (known as Location Aware browsing).

To share location with iweb.itouchvision.com, select ‘Always Share Location’.

To view which pages have been granted permission to share Location, navigate to the site which you have granted permission to.  Select Tools > Page Info > Permissions >

Amend settings as required.

4. Location on PC or Mac

The location will be determined by the Location set on the PC or Mac and this is dependent on the operating system.

Location can be set on Windows 7 by going to Control Panel > Location and Other Sensors (view by Large icons) > Default Location.

Location can be set on Windows 10 by going to > Settings > Privacy > Location.

Location can be set on a Mac by going to System Preferences  (from the Apple () menu > Security & Privacy > Unlock Padlock icon > Enable Location Services.
