How do I Configure Asset Tracker Sensors?

My Council Services (MCS) has a new offering that takes the advantage of IoT (Internet of Things) in the form of trackers or sensors. The sensors work along with the assets by attaching them onto the physical assets such as waste bins,  and pulling all the data into the MCS platform.

To make the waste collection process more intuitive through automation, all that is required is to attach this small sensor device to the Asset such as a litter bin. The device sends all the details like the precise location, status of the Asset whether it’s empty or full, there’s alert of a fire, etc. to the MCS platform. This allows the authorities to plan the collection of the waste when it is necessary preventing unnecessary rounds, and also an alerting relating to an issue with the asset detected by the sensor.

Once the tracker sensor is installed and configured with a SIM, the device can be installed them to the Asset.

Once that is completed following steps are to be covered:

  1. Input the SIM card details
  2. Add configuration details for the sensor
  3. Assign tracker to the Asset (New or Existing)

Input the SIM card details

The administrator needs to add the SIM card details which will be inserted inside the tracker device and used for network purpose for exchange of data.

  1. Go to Administration -> Tracker -> SIM
  2. The list of already added SIM cards is displayed on this page.
  3. You can add one or multiple SIM cards details or import via CSV file.

Add configuration details for the Asset sensor

Once the card is added, then the administrator needs to add and configure the sensor device in the system.

  1. Go to Administration -> Tracker -> Device
  2. The list of already added tracker devices is displayed here.
  3. You can search for the device based on assets to which it is assigned or phone number.
  4. You can add one or multiple sensor devices or import via CSV file.
  5. You can also edit any existing sensor device details.

  1. You can choose to assign this tracker to the Asset while adding the sensor or later from the Asset page.

Assign tracker to the Asset (New or Existing)

It is necessary to have a sensor-specific new category for assets for any new assets with this feature.

  1. Go to Administration –> Assets -> Category -> Add new
  2. Enter the details as necessary.
  3. Select ‘Yes’ to choose that this category of assets is trackable and save it.
  4. The tracker devices can be assigned to the assets created under this specific category.

  1. Create a new asset of the tracker category as created above.
  2. It will display an additional field ‘IMEI’ under ‘Tracker region’ to select the tracker device and assign it to the asset as mapped against the IMEI.

To view all the assets under this category you can tick the Tracker filter option.

  1. On the Asset detail page, navigate to the region called ‘Tracker’ to view all the details fetched from the tracker device attached to the asset.
  2. The region will display details like – IMEI number, SIM number, along with device information like status of the Asset, temperature, voltage, last location, date, fire status, etc. as shown below.

  1. Click on the eye icon to view the history of the tracker that will display all the historic locations including the latitude and longitude of that device.
  2. Click on the map view to see the last location of the tracker device on the map.

Map view (Showing incorrect now because of no location)

  1. You can also assign tracker device to the asset from right-side menu -> Tracker option

  1. You can add or update the Asset Tracker details against assets which are created under the tracking-enabled Category.
  2. Click on the Tracker tab in the sidebar menu.
  3. Select the tracking device in the pop-up window and click on Add button.

Analytics

Go to Analytics -> Asset Trackers to view all the tracker devices on a map.
