How do I use Google Analytics to view platform statistics?

The My Council Services platform supports Google Analytics (GTAG JS). This allows for real-time tracking of visitors on the Customer Portal, providing data and analysis for your organisation.

What steps do I need to follow to set up Google Analytics?

You will need a Google Analytics account to add tracking to your instance. To set up an account, visit the Google Analytics website: https://analytics.google.com

Within your GA account, go into Admin, and add your platform's portal link under "Create Property".

Once you've done this, go back into Admin, and click on "Tracking Code" under the Tracking Info region.

You will see the Tracking ID. Copy the code (UA-XXXXXXX-X).

Once you have the Tracking ID, log in to the Admin Portal. Go into Administration > General > Google Analytics

Paste the code into the "Google analytics #" field, and click  Apply Changes

  Note

"Linker domain" is optional. You can add your non-MCS domain here to enable cross-domain tracking (if a customer accesses a form from a link on your website, for example). This should be used if you want to enable the logging of events for forms across your instance, and to track back and forth across domains automatically. Click on (?) to bring up help text - a URL from Google will be provided.

You will now be able to see traffic, active visitors, and other parameters for your instance in real-time from your Google Analytics account.

Include Domain and Page

The active page shows domain/page. For example, [mycouncilservices.com/login] will be shown when a user is on the MCS website login page.

Logging of Events

The event when a user submits a Service Request on the Customer Portal will be captured with the Catalogue and Form name, under Real-Time > Events.

For example, the screenshot below shows an event where the user has submitted a Service Request using a "Radio group check" form.
