The first thing to consider is what is the difference between 'Cancelling' and 'Terminating' a contract. A customer 'Cancels' a contract, and the organization who issued the contract 'Terminates' the contract.
When a customer 'Cancels' a contract it is only permissible within the terms of their contract. A customer can cancel their contract via self-service or via contacting the administration team who can cancel the contract on their behalf (as long as the customer is within their terms and conditions).
When an Administrator 'Terminates' a contract it is due to a breach in contract. This can be due to a customer violating the terms and conditions, the death of a party, non-payment, etc.
Note
You can only cancel a contract if the contract template has the option selected.
Canceling a contract
1. Navigate to the contracts module, find a contract and open it, so you can see the detail of a contract.
2. Click the [Cancel] button under the 'action' region on the left-hand menu. The following popup will be displayed.
3. Select the person who has authorized the cancellation and select the reason the customer wanted to cancel the customer. If the contract was created from a service request you can update the status of the request. if there are rules against this service request then these will action.
